How not to arrange your next hiking trip
With the advent of July you could say that summer is now in complete bloom. And what better way to engage in summer than with that ideal of summertime entertainments – going to an alternative part of the country you are not familiar with so as to live in a tent and eat moreover burned or slightly cooked meals. Better yet, enjoy the magic of getting your water from a faucet down the street (if you are lucky) instead of from the familiar and convenient to use sink in your home. And let us not overlook the charms of arising in the middle of the night to grope around for a flashlight so you can hike through the dark unknown to a frosty unlit toilet, at times even of the variety that is not alot more than a straightforward hole in the ground. You bet, it is time for that wonder of wonders – camping!
I must acknowledge to relishing camping, normally have. When I was a kid we would all look forward to that two week family vacation in the summer. Months before my Dad would pull out the roadmaps of the nearby states and begin to have a discussion with my Mother about the various worth of the Oregon Coast opposed to the mountains of Washington. They normally would send away for a variety of pamphlets and look at dozens of campgrounds when making the final decision. Of course, today it is all merely a matter of pulling up a handful of searches on the internet to see which State Parks are even accessible for camping. I know of some sites that opened for bookings on the same day every year and are booked solid within a handful of hours for the entire season.
That said, I even now experienced a little excitement when a good friend of my very own and I resolved that in 2010 we actually were going to camp together. We had talked of this not too long ago, but for some reason neither of us truly got around to taking care of it therefore we never went. Nevertheless this year, I am driven to locate us a camping site and a weekend getaway. Our first choice, Catalina Island’s Two Harbors appeared great initially. The net site was simple to find, all the sites had calendars recommending us those that were reserved and those that were on hand. But after quite a few emails backwards and forwards, we confirmed that the solitary weekend left obtainable in the summer was the weekend she was venturing away to a Yoga Retreat. Therefore, regretfully, we determined that the trip to Catalina Island would have to wait for an alternative time.
I am even now on the search for yet another campsite but on this occasion I have no illusions. For me to discover anything halfway respectable that isn’t booked will probably mean exiting the state. I am organizing to start looking real soon. I may even find something today or tomorrow. Just as soon as I get this blog completed, my writing assignments completed and the pages supplied to my own sites. Well, maybe I will get to it tomorrow. But this week – I mean it – I will get that camping trip booked.
